Pursuant to Sec. 7-294e of the Connecicut General Statutes, the regulations of the Police Officers Standards and Training Council and General Orders of the Vernon Police Department, qualified applicants must meet the following list of requirements:

21 years of age or older |

High School graduate (or equivalent) |

30 credit hours from an accredited college or university OR |
| n |
Current Connecticut P.O.S.T.C certification OR |
| n |
2 years of U.S. military service OR |
| n |
2 years active, full-time, law enforcement |
| n |
valid driver's license |
| n |
successful completion of entry level written exam |
| n |
successful completion of oral interview |
| n |
Pass a criminal records check (FBI) |
| n |
No felony, Class A or Class B misdemeanor convictions |
| n |
Pass background investigation |
| n |
Successful completion of polygraph examination |
| n |
Pass psychological examination |
| n |
Negative drug screen test |
| n |
Possess "Complete Health and Injury Prevention" (CHIP card or police officer certification |
