Benefits

Salary:

The yearly salary increases after completion of the police academy and increases yearly (up to the fifth year). Currently, top pay for patrol officer with a Bachelor's Degree is $67,267.20 (as of July 2007)

Health Insurance:

Full health insurance, including medical and dental coverage, is provided for all employees and dependants

Life Insurance:

$40,000 for group term life insurance and an additional $80,000 for accidental death and dismemberment

Retirement Plan:

50% of the average for the highest 3 years after 20 years of service and an additional 2.5% per year thereafter to a maximum of 70%

Paid Sick Leave:

1 1/4 days each month. Sick time is cumulative and can be accured to a maximum of 150 days

Paid Vacation:

10 days for the first 5 years. Thereafter, vacation time increases based on the number of years of service to a maximum of 25 days.

Paid Holidays:

13 days annually

Additionally, the Department supplies all equipment, provides each officer with a yearly clothing allowance, free uniform cleaning, provides continuous training and tuition reimbursement.
